The Precision Machined Products Association (PMPA) was selected as National Partner to grow apprenticeships in manufacturing.

Huron Automatic Screw Company has been a proud member of the PMPA since 1933. We recognize that it is important to support the machining industry by being an active participant in organizations like the PMPA that push for progress, innovation, and collective benefits for everyone involved in the industry. The PMPA is an international trade association representing the interests of the precision machined products industry and encouraging the on-going involvement of its members in order to create strong trade associations.

The objective of the PMPA is to build a cooperative foundation for North American manufacturers that provides an edge over global competitors. One contributing factor to gaining the edge over competitors is to provide accessible and rigorous apprenticeship programs that produce well-trained, hard-working employees.

Supporting Education in Metalworking

One of the PMPA’s greatest investments thus far has been to partner with the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). NIMS was formed in 1994 by metalworking trade associations to develop and maintain a competent and globally competitive labor work force. They set skill standards for the industry, certify individual skills against the standard, and accredit training programs that meet NIMS quality requirements.

Recently, NIMS was selected by the U.S. Department of Labor as an industry intermediary to support the expansion of registered apprenticeships within manufacturing. The PMPA will be assisting NIMS in providing more accessible apprenticeship programs and helping employers to develop more inclusive programs that reach a more diverse talent pool. NIMS was granted $500,000 to support manufacturers that want to establish a registered apprenticeship program with the Department of Labor.

“This contract gives us the unique opportunity to create more impact in our industry by expanding apprenticeships to underrepresented populations and to new companies looking to establish a sustainable talent pipeline,” said Jim Wall, Executive Director, NIMS

What this Means for Huron Automatic Screw Company

As a company who owes a great deal of its success and reputation to hard-working employees, Huron Automatic Screw Company understands the value of these programs. We’re excited to see that our industry is receiving recognition from the government. In an economy where the price of education continues to rise, there is a noticeable shift toward learning a trade, and we are happy to be a part of it. Huron Automatic Screw Company looks forward to seeing, and hopefully hiring, the employees produced by the new programs that will come from this contract.
