Huron Automatic Screw Company stands behind the Precision Machined Products Association as their Education Foundation encourages youth to explore opportunities in the industry.

The Precision Machined Products Association (PMPA) is one of the major networking associations for our industry. They help to connect manufacturers so that we can share new methods and machinery to continue pushing the industry forward as a whole. Within the PMPA is their Education Foundation whose mission is “To promote and fund education, training and career opportunities in the Precision Machining Industry.” Recently, the Education Foundation released an inspirational video showing the industry’s overwhelming, but discrete, function in society. A Look into the World’s “Best Kept Secret”

What most people visualize when they think about the precision machining/manufacturing industry is a row of warehouses with loud machines and assembly lines producing a lot of smoke. However, that hasn’t been the case for decades. Nowadays, jobs in the precision machining/manufacturing sector are quite complicated and technical with never-ending opportunities to learn, apply, and innovate. In the video released by the PMPA, industry professionals explain the immense responsibility the industry holds when it comes to providing parts for nearly every other industry. The precision machining industry transforms great ideas into applicable products, using brilliant minds and cutting-edge technology.

In the video, Barry Butters, from Gateway Technical College, refers to precision machining as possibly the “…world’s best-kept secret.” Most people don’t realize how much precision machining contributes to some of the most important global industries. From the arts to the sciences, precision machining provided the parts for Jimi Hendrix’s Fender Stratocaster as well as the parts for NASA’s latest space mission. The video, which runs less than three minutes, does a great job of defining the importance of precision machining while providing some truly incredible visuals of the latest technology used in the process.

Spreading the Word

The PMPA’s Education Foundation has three essential goals:

  • Establish partnerships with high schools and technical colleges to develop training programs.
  • Collect, maintain, and communicate information about training programs to the public.
  • Support and communicate the development and revision of standards within the industry.

In addition to this, the Education Foundation has grant funds available to assist individuals, schools, and companies for education and training activities in precision machining. It’s very important to spread awareness to youth that precision machining is a great industry to be a part of. Huron Automatic Screw Company joins the PMPA in encouraging people to spread the word about one of the most fascinating industries in the job market.
